Oh I also put cucumber in my water to try to make it taste better because even though the tap water here is totally drinkable, it tastes really bad (city water is nasty).
So anywhos, the Uber gets here and it's finally a normal sized car. Actually, it's a bit smaller than normal sized, but the point is, it's not a van.
It felt really nice being in a car. Like really nice. Like I really sincerely appreciated being in a car. I didn't have to walk. I didn't have to talk the bus. I wasn't in some huge van. I was in some nice little car that was taking me where I needed to go. It was lovely.
So then the GPS said we were there so they guy made me get out even tho I didn't see anywhere that said yoga. So I started walking and looking for building numbers, but like none of the buildings had numbers. Eventually I found some at 123, then 121. Great, I was walking the wrong way, as usual. So I headed back in the right direction and if I had looked behind me when I got out of the car, there was a sign that said Raw Yoga with an arrow to go down a little alley to the front side. It's okay tho because I was really early.
The instructor lady saw my water bottle and told me that she liked it and that it had cucumbers in it so that made me feel good. How nice. (#savethefishies, if you want one you can get one at www.sandcloudapparel.com and use code TashaH25 for 25% off!)
Once everyone gets there we put our mats in a circle and do some Dry Land Swim Practice intense yoga. Like man it was only like 5 minutes but like I was dying. Like lol no thanks.
So then we split into groups to do the acro yoga. We need groups of 3 so there's a base, flyer, and spotter. This one group came in as a group of 4 so they were split into two groups of two and each given an extra person so I got put in with Alice and Antony. They were really nice. They never like officially did any acro yoga before but they tried off YouTube so they probably had more experience than me lol.
We did bird, straddle throne, shin to foot, foot to shin, and a combination of all of the above. The bird, which is basically just plank, was definitely the hardest even though we learned it first. The shin to foot and foot to shin ones were relatively easy, and one of the instructors came to help us during them and when I was flyer for shin to foot to foot to shin he said it was "easy as" for me. So that was nice. With the foot to shin one we end up standing, so I thank cheerleading for helping me be so successful with that one, even tho besides senior night I only ever really flew in like elementary cheerleading.
The instructors were quite helpful and they came around frequently to help us out. Oftentimes we would use them as bases as well. It's definitely different flying with an experienced base than an inexperienced base, especially being an inexperienced flyer. But Alice and Antony did really well and by the second or third tries for each it was feeling much more stable. The instructors knew where to place their feet and how to do everything and they could tell what we were having problems with so we could correct ourselves as well, which was the main difference between them being experienced and us being non-experienced. Like when it was just us and it wasn't working, it was clear that it wasn't working but because we're new to this we didn't necessarily always know why or how to fix it but the instructors could tell us not only what to do to improve and fix the problem, but we could mostly stay in the air (when they were our base) and fix ourselves without even coming down and restarting. It was definitely a lot easier with an instructor base, but it was still super fun with Antony and Alice, even when I was almost failing. Oh I also realized I was peeling really badly so kudos to them for sticking with me while I just shed all over them.
I attempted to base twice (I think, maybe only once) and it was totally awful and I literally couldn't even hold Alice up and she's tiny. So yeah. I understand why Thenz (my Loyola Cheer coach) says I suck at basing. I just don't understand why she keeps me a base....that's another problem for another time tho and although it consumes a lot of my thoughts I try to not think about it because it's irrelevant until next school year. (But like honestly if she just made me a back [I know, we already have too many] I promise I would be a million times better because in high school that was my primary position.)
Anyways. After the acro yoga part we got into partners for thai massage. I got partnered with the lady that got put with the other two from Alice and Antony's group. I just laid there while she tried to work on my leg muscles then we switched and she laid there while I tried to work on her muscles. I thought I did horribly, but she said I did a good job, so there's that.
Then at the end we got back in a circle and we all had to say one word. Like any word. So like all I could think of was #blessed, so for my word I said blessed and I was like oh no that's dumb, but then one of the instructors also said blessed and I felt better.
Then I headed to look for a bus stop. I found one but it said the next bus to Auckland Central wouldn't be for another 45 minutes. So I started walking, hoping to find another bus stop but I didn't find one so I walked back and took a seat at the benches near the stop. I was sad that I still had over a half hour until the bus showed up, but then I saw a bus on the other side of the road pull up that said City Center, Wellesley Street. That's exactly what I need! So I ran across traffic, hoping I wouldn't get run over, and made it to the bus. Then I got off the bus at the Civic Center and headed back to my flat.
When I got back to my flat, I drank my coconut water out of a juice box! My coconut water came in a juice box! It was lovely!
While I was walking up Wellesley Street, I realized I literally hadn't been downtown in so long. Like I can't remember the last time I went there. I'll have to go out soon. Maybe Father Ted's on Tuesday? Or maybe the Civic Center for Flashdance tomorrow? I'm still unsure of whether or not to go. I guess you'll find out in a blog post if I do haha.
Now I'm just chillin to the Chili Peppers in bed. Since I missed Easter I'm going to church in the morning for Greek Easter (even tho I'm just going to regular church, not Greek church). So I better get to bed early tonight.
xoxo,
Tasha
