All Blacks v Wales

Much like Hobbiton, you can't go to New Zealand without going to an All Blacks game. Also like Hobbiton, I'm not into rugby. Thankfully, like with Hobbiton, I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun it was.
Before the game a bunch of us chilled in Anastasia and Libby (and Aissa but she wasn't there)'s flat. Then when it was time to go we shared an Uber (well 2 ubers) so we only paid like $2 to get there. Then I went with my Uber's girls (Libby, Anastasia, and Celeste) to their seats. On the way in we got free boxes of chicken snack cracker things! Then Celeste was nice enough to walk me down to my seat so I wasn't all alone. The girls' seats were up in like high stadium seating. Mine was right on the field (it's just wrong for a cheerleader to not be right on the field/court). I felt like I was in high school again, getting ready for a game, wishing I had hot chocolate.
My whole row was empty so Celeste stayed down with me because (no offense) they were better seats than hers. We watched the players warm up and toss up while we prayed no one would come take the seats.
We watched the news reporters give their reports followed by the Wales national anthem. When it was New Zealand's turn, we sang along with the words on the screen. Then it was time for the Haka. My phone decided to stop working quite early, but I still caught a little, which you can see in my All Blacks video on my Facebook.
Then the game started. It reminds me a lot of football, with touchdowns and field goals and everything (okay not field goal, the extra point you get for kicking after a touchdown). But they also add some sick cheer moves that low key took our team foreverrr to do (where you lift by the thigh and not the foot or ground). It's a pretty sweet game.
About halfway through the first half a couple dudes came to sit next to us, but when the realized they were in the wrong section because there buddies weren't there, they left.
Halftime was lame. I expected a grand performance.
After halftime I got a hot dog! It was so good and I wanted a hot dog so bad. Later Celeste got donuts and I had a couple, but they were too cinnamony for me.
After the game, we attempted to find the others for like two minutes before we decided to start walking. Previously I had walked all the way to that area before and it was super nice out so we decided to just walk all the way back instead of getting another Uber. We only got lost once, and we found like a dozen Waldos.
Soon we were back in our rooms and I was ready to be asleep. Gotta get up early for Straya the next morn.
Until next time,

The Chicken and Waffle Fail that wasn't really a fail at all

May 25
Today started out as a normal day. I went to class. I didn't remember a thing I read in the business strategy book. That's when things took a turn for the better.
I got a 4/5 on my business strategy quiz. That was very pleasing to me because the past couple quizzes I've only been getting 2/5 even tho I read the stupid chapter before every class, sometimes more than once. Then class got out early so I went to meet Celeste and Sarah to go to Chicken and Waffles! I was so excited because I love chicken and waffles (just ask my mother).
So I go chill in front of Subway and Sarah comes and tbh I thought it was just gonna be Celeste so I was glad to see Sarah because I haven't hung out with her in a while. Celeste is late, as usual, but it's fine and soon we're going to Orleans for Chicken and Waffles.
Then we get there and we meet up with Libby! Yay more people!
So we sit at the table and place our order and everything then a different waitress comes up and asks us for IDs even tho no one is getting any alcoholic stuff. Everyone except Sarah has theirs, but we're not gonna make Sarah leave by herself so we all leave and we go to Better Burger. I've never had it before but apparently it's like the best. I thought it was just okay but whatever.
It was nice catching up with Sarah and Libby because they were telling me about all these things happening within our Loyola group dynamics that I didn't know about because I'm like halfway antisocial but really everyone is just antisocial towards me and it's all their fault and not mine. But anyways so yeah now I'm a little more in the loop with events up until yesterday.
Then Sarah leaves because she has class at 3. Libby, Celeste and I just chill at Better Burger because I'm not up for the walk back and I guess they weren't either. So then we're talking right and all of a sudden Libby stops mid sentence and her jaw drops and she's just staring and we're like "what are you staring at" and she's like "that's Max Key, the Prime Minister's son!" so we wait over at Better Burger for a little bit more then we go over to the bar where he is and we're just like talking about famous people and such and Libby's like "today is his birthday" so she googles it while we're finishing our drinks (cider for me, rose for Libby, water for Celeste) and I'm watchin as like other people are coming up to him and such then when everyone else but his bestie and him have left, Libby finishes her drink and goes to talk to him. They take a super cute dog filter snapchat selfie then she invites Celeste and I to join. So we're like "happy birthday!" and we just chill for like 10 minutes with Max and his friend, Marty. Marty is in the band Jupiter Project and he put us on his snapchat story, so we're like lowkey not really almost famous now. So then we get our selfies and let him be because we have to go to class now too.
Max Key
Marty from Jupiter Project

So then I get to where my class is and I'm sitting there because I'm early and I'm just chillin on my phone then it's like class time but it still seems empty so I look around and there's literally no one there so I check my email and class was canceled so I go back to my room and watch How To Be Single and skip my next class because it's pouring and I'm not walking there. But then the management teacher put our essay grades in and I didn't fail even tho she hates me so that's good.
So I'm just chillin til tonight because Celeste and I are going to 1885. So then the time comes and I get ready and I'm like what do I wear because it's pouring so I can't wear my leather or my suede and that's like my whole life so I'm like ahh what do I wear now so then I put on this like H2O worthy outfit and it's totally cute and I'm totally gonna wear it lots this summer and the top makes me look tan.
So then Celeste and I go to 1885 and Max and Marty are there. Max takes 21 shots because it's his 21st and like everyone was snapchating it and such, and it now occurs to me that Marty didn't change his clothes from earlier haha. So then Marty goes and hangs with these girls and Max is just like chillin with his buds and such and Celeste and I are just chillin too. And then finally more people come because it was like empty.
Then the first person buys me a drink. Took long enough. Then I'm like okay done with you. Then I'm like "Celeste that guy is gonna buy me the next drink" and he kept like staring and coming closer but he never like legit approached me. Chicken. Until we were walking back to the flat then he drives by and he's like "hey!" and I'm just like don't hey me you owe me a drink but I'm really just like "hey!". But anyways after that first one we were like okay who's next and it was fun guessing who would come up next. Like every time except for that one guy I was right, but no one else bought me drinks they just came up to us and didn't buy us drinks. Whatever .
Then Max requests Soulja Boy and then he comes next to us and we all Crank That together. It was fun. Then he leaves and I keep playing my who's next game which is also super fun. Then this guy from Sydney comes up and he's like "my friend is into rugby and he does like some blue thing and he wants to dance" and obvi he means like the Auckland Blues but I'm just like lol
so yeah musicians, sons, rugby players, yolo
& Celeste met this guy from New York. Oh and there was this guy from Canada ! he was cool .
Okay so like before soulja boy I think (maybe after, idk) they played Hips Swing so I'm gonna swing right and so this guy was like yeah I can dig it and he was like hip bumping like you're supposed to do but his girl was like right there! like if this were America I wouldn't be alive to tell the story. but it's not america so that's good.
Speaking of America, everyone here finds it so hard to believe I'm from there. Like idk why. Whatever.
Oh also Max is the second person in my entire life to not hang out with me at the club when I want them to (Jesse was the first, still a bit bitter over that) but I guess we did soulja boy together so maybe that counts...
But we didn't end up leaving with an invite to his super fancy celebrity party on Saturday but I won't be in Auckland anyways so I guess it's okay...not really. but whatever.
So then Celeste and I go back to the flat and like we stop in Burger King because there's lots of people and it's a bunch of people from the club and they start like almost fighting and I called it way before any of the Burger King staff caught on and that's why I need to be at H2O .
my cider came in a jar!
Until next time,
xoxo,
Tasha

May 27 Update:
Max is in my class. I was all excited for nothing lol if only I had been more social throughout the semester we could've been best friends because he's been in my class since February. Oh well, that's what I get for being anti-people. But now it makes sense that when we were all like "oh what do you study" he was like "same as you" lol oops

In the Shark Tank

AHH SHARKS FINALLY YESSS SHARKS !
So I love sharks. Like a lot. Like they're awesome. So I was super hype to go shark diving at the aquarium here in Auckland.
Monday morning though, when I had to get up I was super tired and didn't want to get up. But then I just had to remind myself I was getting up to go dive with the SHARKS and I got myself up and took an Uber over to the aquarium.
They Uber guy went past the entrance to drop me off at the exit because I don't know why. So I had to walk all the way from the other side of the area to the entrance, but it was cool because the footpath was little penguin feet. It was adorbs.
I was a bit early, so I had to wait at for the guy to come get me. The waiting area was next to these fish things that were super shiny and they moved their fins like wings instead of fins, as if they were flying. They were hypnotic. I kept looking around trying to find a sign to see what they are, but I didn't see one. But I spent the whole time waiting just looking at them. They were cool, man.
So then our guide, Patrick, came to take us in the back to get ready for our dive. It was just me and a girl from Perth, Michelle. Michelle never dived before so Patrick gave us a run through of like general safety for diving, then he explained about the types of sharks we would encounter: Sand Shark, Broadnose Sevengill Shark, School Shark, and Wobbegong Shark, along with a Short Tail Stingray, and a Moray Eel. Oh my goodness I was excited.
Then we got all ready in our wetsuits, booties, and hoods and headed into a little area before the main tank where we were put into our BCD with the tanks and such already hooked up for us. Then we had to remove and reinsert our regulator while underwater and clear our masks before we could move into the shark tank. But then we headed down into the main tank and climbed over the human tunnel to get to the area we would be chilling in to observe the sharks. When I say chilling, I mean chilling. The water was FREEZING. I was seriously very cold.
last time i was an aquarium fish
Florida 2016
Other than being cold, it was the best dive I've ever been on lol. We were only 8 feet underwater, so it wasn't like it was an intense dive or anything, but it was nice. I've never been so content/at peace/at ease in my whole life. I could've stayed there forever. Also, I'm pretty sure I was an aquarium fish in my past life because I love being a fish in an aquarium.
So anyways there were lots of sharks and they kept swimming up close, even the Wobbegong which is like super old and likes to just chill on the floor. The stingray also kept swimming up to us and I really wanted to touch it but we weren't allowed.
But our safety diver, Adam, took lots of pictures and videos and we got copies of all of them so I have lots of good pictures and I made a video which you can find on my Facebook page.
So yeah we just like chilled, looking at the sharks and the people going through the tunnels. Oh and these two little pink fish came right up to me and I might've had a staring contest with them (I won both times). Like I honestly think they wanted to give me fishy kisses. It was actually super adorable.
So now I'm just gonna post some cool pictures for you but there will be more words after the pictures so keep reading!

Once we were almost frozen solid, it was time to get out. So we headed back out and got in super hot showers. Like the shower at my apartment isn't as warm. It actually felt super nice because I was so cold; usually hot water makes me super dizzy so I have to take medium to cold showers.
Even though the dive was AMAZINGly awesome, something was wrong. My ear felt like I broke it again. We were only in 8 feet of water; if I seriously hurt my ear diving in 8 feet of water, there's something majorly wrong with me. Then I remembered what I learned about myself in yin yoga - I clench when I'm uncomfortable. Although mentally I had never been more comfortable, physically I was freezing. My knees (thankfully) couldn't clench because they were bent as a seat for the rest of my body. My hands were clasped together super tight to keep from shivering, which leaves my jaw. I was unintentionally and unaware-ly biting so hard on my regulator to try to keep from shaking in the cold that I had actually seriously hurt my jaw. I confuse my jaw with my ear more often than not, to be honest. So I hadn't hurt my ear in only 8 feet of water; I had just clenched my jaw so hard that it hurt really, really badly. At least my ear was fine.
See, showers are great. They let you think through your problems to figure them out logically. It would not have been logical for me to have busted my ear in only 8 feet deep. But my poor jaw can clench rather hard, making it totally possible (and it certainly happened based upon this pain) to cause a pressure problem when it finally unclenched itself.
Maybe that's also why I have a chewing gum problem...I always thought it was just to relieve the pressure in my head but it probably relieves some jaw pressures as well...interesting.
Anyways, after my shower, Patrick gave us some sharks' teeth he found on the floor of the tank. He had already given us each one while we were in the tank, but he found more on the way out. Michelle got two sand shark teeth and I got three (yeah he must like me better) seven gill shark teeth (two from the top of the mouth and one from the bottom). Oh my goodness I was excited. I used to have a shark tooth necklace that I bought at some souvenir store somewhere and I loved it so much I slept in it and it cut up my chest and arm really bad. It's a good thing these teeth are just teeth and not on a necklace haha. I'm so excited to have teeth that came straight from the shark and not straight from the store (who got them from a shark but still...it's more sentimental this way haha).
After he gave us our teeth, he showed us some of the fish in quarantine and explained how they got there/where they're going and took us to the sea turtle to explain about their sea turtle rescue program, which is kinda similar to the one at the Baltimore Aquarium (aqua.org baby). The sea turtle was really small but it's the smallest sea turtle species in the world so that's as big as it gets.
Oh, speaking of the world, the sharks are from New York, so they're still on Northern Hemisphere cycling, so for them they're in mating season, so the girl had lots of bites on her because that's how they keep from drifting apart when they're doing their thing, and sharks have super strong skin as a result so they can put up with all the biting and they also heal super fast because of it. Oh and since they're from New York, they were flown to the Auckland aquarium and it's currently the longest airtime/flight time a shark has experienced. So these sharks are like pro flyers. No wonder we connect so well, us east coast USA creatures.
Okay back to the turtle, it got sent to rehab because it was hit by a boat, like a lot of turtles are. It also ingested some plastic, like a lot of turtles do. So it was in bad shape. So yeah, don't litter. Watch your plastics. Be careful of turtles when boating.
After we were done with our little behind the scenes tour, we got free hot drinks at the cafe while we were waiting for our picture/video package to be delivered with our certificate of survival. I wasn't expecting all that, so it was really nice. Of
(Sorry for the interruption but Heaven Knows just came on my Pandora and that's my dive song and yes I'm so pleased right now. How perf. Dude I love the pretty reckless, like forreal. & this song. lovely.)
Of course I got tea because tea and salmon are how I live. Oh, speaking of salmon, when I was packing my bag to come to the aquarium I was like "I should take some food in case I get hungry" and I was gonna grab my salmon because salmon is life, but then I was like "lol I'm going to an aquarium that is so wrong to be eating fish in front of the fish like I can't do that" so then what did I grab instead? TUNA! I grabbed a tuna and crackers pre-packaged packet thing like they sell at dollar tree, but bigger because they don't have dollar tree in New Zealand. But like LOL TUNA IS STILL A FISH. Literally the reason I didn't bring my salmon was because it was a fish but then I brought tuna which is also a fish. Like what. Sometimes I just don't think. But I wasn't hungry so I didn't eat it anyways, but still, it's the fact that it was still a fish in an aquarium and it was kinda ironicly funny.
So anyways, since Michelle is from Perth I was talking to her about Coral Bay and the whale sharks and such to get a local's input. She actually hasn't been to Coral Bay because when they get holidays they usually go to like Bali or Europe or somewhere far away because they don't get many holidays, but her sister just did the whale shark snorkel and she loved it and thought it was amazing. Her sister lives in Auckland near the zoo. Her sister's boyfriend is actually turning 30 this weekend and that's why she's here. But then she said that Ningaloo Reef (the one with the whale sharks) is actually a lot better than the Great Barrier Reef according to a bunch of like professional scientists and divers because it's more protected, less touristy, and much more alive. She convinced me that I definitely need to go do my tour of western Australia instead of going back to Cairns because I feel like I would definitely have the best time with the whale sharks and such. Also Michelle was lowkey super scared of the sharks in the tank because they had sharp teeth and such, but she said that she's not even scared of the whale sharks because even though they're huge they're harmless. So even though I wasn't scared of these sharks at all and was super at peace with them, it was still nice to hear that even though they're literally huge the whale shark's aren't intimidating at all, even with their size. So yeah I definitely must do that before coming back to the states in a couple months.
In a few minutes Adam came out with our pictures and videos on a flash drive for us and gave us our certificates of survival. It was nice. We kept sitting there, watching the interesting fish and talking though.
I finally found a sign about the fish we had been looking at for probably like an hour, including the time we were staring at them before the shark dive. They're just so interesting and I wasn't kidding when I said hypnotic. I could've sat there watching them forever. Eventually I peeled myself away to go to the penguins, but I'll get to that.
So these fish were actually, guess what... ELEPHANT SHARKS. ELEPHANT. SHARK. ELEPHANT SHARKS! Like WHAT. Those are my two favorite things like ever (except for my beloved Pal). Okay I kinda want one. I still want a real elephant, and it'd be super cool to have a more sharky shark, but I'll take all three. Charge it to my grandmother's card (wink), just kidding.
I can see they're called elephant sharks because of their trunky nose, but they look more like leopards than elephants, but I've already seen a leopard shark, so I know that that name was already taken. To be honest their noses kinda bother me, but their wings make up for it. Also in the tank with them was that long fish that I saw on my snorkel in Bali that was totally intriguing also. I still have no idea what it is....maybe I'll google it.
So eventually I decided to go explore the rest of the aquarium so I could head back and take a nap. So I walked back to the penguins, which were almost back to the beginning. The penguins were cool. They had King Penguins and King Penguin babies and some other type of penguin that started with a G...Gentoo penguins.
I'm very proud of this penguin picture. He was framed perfectly, probably standing there on purpose.
I thought these were Emperor penguins, but now I think that's the kind with the like feather crown. (hold up, I'm gonna google it real quick). NOPE. I was right. These are indeed Emperor Penguins. See, I know my marine animals. Okay so now I just googled King Penguin and they look the same...are they the same? I mean Emperor and King are both names for rulers, so I guess it's possible. The King penguin pictures make them look shorter and fatter, but with the same coloring going on. I don't know if that's just the pictures tho. Let me do a new Google search. Okay so google says that King penguins are smaller but similarly colored compared to Emperor penguins. Hm. Interesting.
Okay so I guess according to this they were King Penguins, because the chicks definitely looked like that brown puff instead of the Happy Feet penguins. But in my mind the adults still look more like the Emperor than the King. Ah, whatever. Well, you have the picture of the aquarium penguin above this Googled comparison picture, you can decide (but in reality they are King Penguins. They just don't really look like it to me).
They also had this "feel the penguin water" thing where you put your hand in this thing full of water that's as cold as the water in the penguin habitat and it was a million times colder than the shark water. It was legitimate freezing. The challenge was to last 30 seconds and I probably lasted like 4 seconds.
Then I moved on to see the rest of the small aquarium. There was a frozen giant squid which was pretty cool. They also covered the walls with a bunch of facts, like most aquariums do. In this section though, they were all about the Southern Ocean. Growing up, I had always been taught there are 7 continents and 4 oceans (Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific, and Indian). To learn there is a 5th ocean, the Southern Ocean, seriously shook me to my core and internally seriously upset me. Like why keep that from me? What is the point in not teaching us about this fifth ocean? Like why? I don't understand why we are taught about four oceans and pretend the fifth one doesn't exist. After everyone gets over the whole equal gender and equal race rights, bet I will start an equal ocean education movement. Like I'm seriously upset to learn that we just act like this fifth ocean doesn't exist when it clearly does. Like that's just not okay. & I can't blame common core because I didn't grow up with common core. I also can't blame Obama because I was way to old to learn about an extra ocean when he came into office. So who am I to blame? Can't blame Queen Anne's County education because what about that time I was at Olde Mill Christian Academy? Man. I guess I'll just have to blame myself for just believing that I wasn't being lied to about something so seemingly trivial my whole life.
So I needed to sit to take in this new information. Good thing I made it back to those enchanting elephant sharks. So I sat and watched them for a bit more.
Eventually when I recomposed myself, I moved on. I passed a tank with some bass in it.
Then I was in the shark tunnel. It reminded me of the one at the aquarium in...Melbourne? Sydney? ah, somewhere down under back in 2012. It was kinda neat being on the other side when I was just inside the tank an hour ago. There was a "shark cage" group going in now, which meant that they wore snorkel equipment instead of dive equipment and just floated in a net about two feet into the tank and the sharks were on the other side of the net. Honestly, I was going to do both because I love sharks so much, but when I was booking it I realized that the one with the net would seem so lame after doing the dive (it's scheduled so the dive is always first). I was most definitely right. I'm glad I didn't waste my money doing that as well. (Also now that I think of it, it was definitely the Sydney aquarium that had the shark tunnel because I was wearing the same outfit I wore to the wax museum and that was in Sydney.)

So after the shark tunnel there were a couple small fish tanks with various fish, like one with a puffer fish and one with an octopus.

Sea Dragons
Then there was a small seahorse section, with a few tanks of different types of sea horses, including the long nose sea horse and the yellow seahorse. They also had a tank of sea dragons. They're one of the only aquariums to have that, and New Zealand is the only place in the world where you can recreationally dive to see sea dragons. They're in the south part of the south island and they live very deep in the ocean but come up to the surface in the south island (I forget why....) which is how you can see them on your dives because otherwise they're too deep.
That was pretty much the whole aquarium. It was insanely small. If I was just going for the aquarium, I would be extremely disappointed but because I did the shark dive, I thought it was well worth the money, especially considering I got three shark teeth, hundreds of pictures, several videos, a hot drink, and aquarium entry all included. & they set up and took apart all the gear for me so I could just enjoy the dive. It was definitely worth every cent and probably a bit more, but it wouldn't've been if I had just paid aquarium entry and wanted to see the aquarium.
Next to the giftshop they had their Finding Nemo tank, with the angel fish, clown fish, and the dory fish.

In the giftshop I got some post cards and some stamps, but I'm two stamps and one post card short because I miscalculated in my head, but oh well. I'll get it all sorted eventually.
Then I went out the exit, where I saw a shark car and had a great view of the Auckland skyline.
 After wandering around for a bit in search of the free aquarium to city shuttle (it wasn't yet running in the morning for as early as I had to be there for the shark dive, which is why I Ubered there), I decided to go back to the entrance to look for/ask about the shuttle. But when I got to the entrance, the shuttle was right there and it was getting ready to leave - perfect timing! So I hoped on board and took a window seat.
So the bus looks like a shark because it's for the aquarium. I love it and think it's the most adorable bus ever. But whenever we were stopped, like at a red light or something, and there were people they kept making fun of it. Like there was this group of boys like totally drunk (at like 1pm on a Monday) and they were like making fun of the bus and the driver. I'm sure the driver is used to it because it's his job to drive the bus, but like I felt so bad for him. Like it's not his fault he's driving a shark; it's just a job. Gotta get paid somehow. Oh well hopefully it doesn't bother him.
The bus dropped us off at the ferry dock and as I walked back to my flat, I realized I hadn't been to town since before Easter (like the real Easter break, not Greek Easter lol), except the one time I went to Father Ted's with Celeste, but we just went straight to Father Ted's and back so it doesn't really even count. I also passed two places that smelled like the sold actual fried chicken, so I'm super excited to eventually drum up the motivation/energy to go check to see if they actually have fried chicken some day.
Once I made it back to my flat, I uploaded some pictures and put the flash drive and shark teeth in a bag with my piece of sea glass I found in Coromandel so that I won't lose them. I'm definitely bringing them back to the states with me!
Then I attempted to work on my reflection paper and eventually did it and handed it in and went to bed. It was a great day.
Until next time,
xoxo,

Happy Easter, Happy Easter, Couldn't Miss This One This Year

As you know, for Easter I was in Byron Bay. I went to the Bluesfest, but I did not go to church. So, as I said on Easter, I would celebrate on Greek Easter. Well Greek Easter was this past Sunday (May 1). So I got my butt up super early to walk to St. Benedict's for Mass. Yes, I know I'm supposed to go to Mass every week, but no one ever said I was a good Catholic. But also just so you're aware, my church at home is St. Benedict's so that's why I got up to walk to St. Benedict's instead of just pretending to be whatever the church next to my dorm is (I think it's like Presbyterian or something but I don't know).
The weather here is kinda weird. As in, the sky here is weird. It looked like it looks when it snows, but it was like at least 60/70 degrees. Definitely way too warm to snow, and it never snows in Auckland. But like snow sky looks different than rain sky and it looked like snow sky. It also didn't rain at all.
So I got there 25 minutes early and I was like the 3rd person there. So I got a row to myself and hoped no one would sit with me. Eventually two people did join but they sat on the other side of the pew and the row was basically two pews put together so I was still in my own pew so it was all good.
They didn't have the readings on the sheet with the music (they didn't even have full music/prayer books, just a printed sheet of paper with that day's songs), so it was really hard to understand/follow what they were saying but when they got to the blessing of the Eucharist and such I already have that part memorized so I felt much more in my element and it was like Father Carroll was right there instead of Father HeavyAccent. Since I did miss Easter I figured I should take the body and blood this time (usually I just get the body) and oh my goodness maybe it was like penance for missing Easter or something but that blood set my blood on fire and I'm glad I didn't burn right then and there like oh my goodness it was awful. But somehow I made it out alive and headed back to my flat.
On the way I saw an escort of some Indian royalty. Like imagine Obama's escort, like with the police then three black cars then his then three more black cars then police. That was what this was, except the cars were silver not black and there was an Indian flag on the middle one. (I googled it when I got back to my flat, I didn't know what flag it was.) It was kinda cool to see.
But then I made it back to my flat where Sarah and Celeste both informed me they actually wouldn't go to the zoo with me. Shocker. They pretty much always cancel, at least when it comes to the zoo. I've given up on them and the zoo. I'll go by myself someday. So I took a nap.
When I woke up, I just chilled until 8, when Anastasia invited us all to her flat to play an egg game because she's Greek and it's her real Easter. That made me feel a more Eastery and I'm very grateful she let me join in on her festivities. I lost in the first round both times we played.
lamb and rice dinner
So how you play is the eggs are boiled and you go nose to nose and tap the eggs and only one egg breaks. The broken egg loses and the unbroken egg moves on to the next round. Mikaela did really well and she went to the championship round both times.
Also I ate some frozen lamb dinner before I went to Anastasia's. I forgot to mention that.
After Anastasia's, I went back to my room and went back to sleep.
Also I would just like to point out that I do actually have much more Easter-y dresses here with me but due to my legs still very much having their, um, skin condition from Bali I didn't wear any of my Easter dresses.

"Boo bunny" no, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season
The perfect basket for me would be
Completions and connections left from

Last year, vacay shoppin'
Encounter, most interesting
Should go to church but never the time
Most of life passed along those lines

So celebrate, glory be
Raise up cup's of Easter cheer
I just need to catch my breath
Easter by myself this year

Calendar picture, pastel landscape
Warmed this room for fourty days
Crosses, palm leaves
Get this Easter over with

Flashback to wintertime, born again
Would've been good to go for church
Couldn't agree when we were both free
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime
Out to the beach to the waves could I join him?
No, this time it was me
Sunburn in the third degree

Now the calendar's more than one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
But I think, I'll miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
But I think, I'll miss this one this year

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
But I think, I'll miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
But I think, I'll miss this one this year

Hardly realizing the date
'Cause I bundled up for flights
Last minute have to do
A few planes a few calls

'Cause it's "RSVP"
No thanks, no party lights
It's Easter, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites

Last fall I had a night to myself
Some guy called, Halloween party
Waited all night for him to show
This time his car wouldn't go

Forget it, I'll do it soon
Trudge on home to celebrate
In a quiet way, unwind
Doing Easter Greek this time.

A & P has provided me
With the frozen lamb and rice
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh darn! Guess what I forgot?

So on, with the heels, back out to the church
To the only place for holiday
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the pew is that guy I've been chasing all year

"Welcome to my home," he said
"Need a break, this year's been crazy"
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot Easter too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Easter magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year

Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year
Happy Easter, Happy Easter
Couldn't miss this one this year
Until next time,

Drop and Give Me Zen

Today (4/30) was the Acro Yoga Workshop at Raw Yoga in Auckland (not the city, the state). So I woke up, took a shower, got dressed, ate half a pop tart and some salmon, and ordered an Uber to take me to the yoga studio.
Oh I also put cucumber in my water to try to make it taste better because even though the tap water here is totally drinkable, it tastes really bad (city water is nasty).
So anywhos, the Uber gets here and it's finally a normal sized car. Actually, it's a bit smaller than normal sized, but the point is, it's not a van.
It felt really nice being in a car. Like really nice. Like I really sincerely appreciated being in a car. I didn't have to walk. I didn't have to talk the bus. I wasn't in some huge van. I was in some nice little car that was taking me where I needed to go. It was lovely.
So then the GPS said we were there so they guy made me get out even tho I didn't see anywhere that said yoga. So I started walking and looking for building numbers, but like none of the buildings had numbers. Eventually I found some at 123, then 121. Great, I was walking the wrong way, as usual. So I headed back in the right direction and if I had looked behind me when I got out of the car, there was a sign that said Raw Yoga with an arrow to go down a little alley to the front side. It's okay tho because I was really early.
The instructor lady saw my water bottle and told me that she liked it and that it had cucumbers in it so that made me feel good. How nice. (#savethefishies, if you want one you can get one at www.sandcloudapparel.com and use code TashaH25 for 25% off!)
Once everyone gets there we put our mats in a circle and do some Dry Land Swim Practice intense yoga. Like man it was only like 5 minutes but like I was dying. Like lol no thanks.
So then we split into groups to do the acro yoga. We need groups of 3 so there's a base, flyer, and spotter. This one group came in as a group of 4 so they were split into two groups of two and each given an extra person so I got put in with Alice and Antony. They were really nice. They never like officially did any acro yoga before but they tried off YouTube so they probably had more experience than me lol.
We did bird, straddle throne, shin to foot, foot to shin, and a combination of all of the above. The bird, which is basically just plank, was definitely the hardest even though we learned it first. The shin to foot and foot to shin ones were relatively easy, and one of the instructors came to help us during them and when I was flyer for shin to foot to foot to shin he said it was "easy as" for me. So that was nice. With the foot to shin one we end up standing, so I thank cheerleading for helping me be so successful with that one, even tho besides senior night I only ever really flew in like elementary cheerleading.
The instructors were quite helpful and they came around frequently to help us out. Oftentimes we would use them as bases as well. It's definitely different flying with an experienced base than an inexperienced base, especially being an inexperienced flyer. But Alice and Antony did really well and by the second or third tries for each it was feeling much more stable. The instructors knew where to place their feet and how to do everything and they could tell what we were having problems with so we could correct ourselves as well, which was the main difference between them being experienced and us being non-experienced. Like when it was just us and it wasn't working, it was clear that it wasn't working but because we're new to this we didn't necessarily always know why or how to fix it but the instructors could tell us not only what to do to improve and fix the problem, but we could mostly stay in the air (when they were our base) and fix ourselves without even coming down and restarting. It was definitely a lot easier with an instructor base, but it was still super fun with Antony and Alice, even when I was almost failing. Oh I also realized I was peeling really badly so kudos to them for sticking with me while I just shed all over them.
I attempted to base twice (I think, maybe only once) and it was totally awful and I literally couldn't even hold Alice up and she's tiny. So yeah. I understand why Thenz (my Loyola Cheer coach) says I suck at basing. I just don't understand why she keeps me a base....that's another problem for another time tho and although it consumes a lot of my thoughts I try to not think about it because it's irrelevant until next school year. (But like honestly if she just made me a back [I know, we already have too many] I promise I would be a million times better because in high school that was my primary position.)
Anyways. After the acro yoga part we got into partners for thai massage. I got partnered with the lady that got put with the other two from Alice and Antony's group. I just laid there while she tried to work on my leg muscles then we switched and she laid there while I tried to work on her muscles. I thought I did horribly, but she said I did a good job, so there's that.
Then at the end we got back in a circle and we all had to say one word. Like any word. So like all I could think of was #blessed, so for my word I said blessed and I was like oh no that's dumb, but then one of the instructors also said blessed and I felt better.
Then I headed to look for a bus stop. I found one but it said the next bus to Auckland Central wouldn't be for another 45 minutes. So I started walking, hoping to find another bus stop but I didn't find one so I walked back and took a seat at the benches near the stop. I was sad that I still had over a half hour until the bus showed up, but then I saw a bus on the other side of the road pull up that said City Center, Wellesley Street. That's exactly what I need! So I ran across traffic, hoping I wouldn't get run over, and made it to the bus. Then I got off the bus at the Civic Center and headed back to my flat.
When I got back to my flat, I drank my coconut water out of a juice box! My coconut water came in a juice box! It was lovely!
While I was walking up Wellesley Street, I realized I literally hadn't been downtown in so long. Like I can't remember the last time I went there. I'll have to go out soon. Maybe Father Ted's on Tuesday? Or maybe the Civic Center for Flashdance tomorrow? I'm still unsure of whether or not to go. I guess you'll find out in a blog post if I do haha.
Now I'm just chillin to the Chili Peppers in bed. Since I missed Easter I'm going to church in the morning for Greek Easter (even tho I'm just going to regular church, not Greek church). So I better get to bed early tonight.
Until next time,
xoxo,

Teacher Appreciation Post

So I complain a lot about the academics here and the university and such, but our new Marketing lecturer is great so I thought she deserved a post because she is what's right about this school.
She's our 3rd lecturer for Marketing 201 and her name is Sandy.
So I drag myself to class on Wednesday (4/27, this post is being posted a bit later due to a lineup of other posts). My class before was cancelled because we had a major paper due, so I literally had to leave my bed and my room to go all the way to the business building for 1 hour of class with another new professor. But I'm a good student so I did it anyways.
So she opens up the class by saying (and I quote) "I'll be your cruise director for the rest of the voyage". WHAT. CAN YOU REPEAT THAT. CRUISE DIRECTOR. VOYAGE. Dude it's like your speakin right to me, reading my hearts most desire (yeah I'm not kidding on that cruise addiction front). Like woah, now you've got my attention. Go on.
So she's wearing a leather jacket, flare jeans (really the only kind I can stand), heeled booties, and she has blonde hair. It's like me of the future. It's pretty rockin tbh.
So then we had class and it was probably normal. It's like 1am so I don't really remember but she was cool.
Then today, Friday (4/29), second class with her, she spends THE ENTIRE CLASS complaining about Vodafone!! Like dude! I feel you!! I hate Vodafone! & if I was a teacher I would totally spend the entire 2 hour lecture letting all my students know that Vodafone sucks and complaining about them (or complaining about whatever really). Like I feel you. We are so on the same wavelength here. Like way to be a good teacher.
Also I feel it's important to note that I am not being sarcastic. Not only am I mostly totally awful at sarcasm, both understanding and trying to produce, I'm being 100% legit here. It's actually great.
She was also wearing another leather jacket, but a different color. Like yo. Yes.
And now, let me go to her name. It's Sandy. Like a beach. Beaches have sand. I love beaches. What a great name. Like I wish all teachers were like this one. Finally a teacher I can relate to.
I wonder if she'll last more than the other lecturers.
Hope so.
Until next time,
xoxo,

"Did you fall off a motorbike?"

No. No I did not. I went surfing. But as soon as I board the plane from Bali, that's what the two people I'm sitting next to ask. "Did you fall off a motorbike?"
I suppose I should start with my flight TO Bali first. So Friday the 15th I had class from noon-five. I actually had a test in my noon-2pm class. So I was up as per usual on class days. Then after class I made sure I was all packed and around 6:15 called an Uber to take me to the airport.
I was all by myself. I don't know if I clicked the wrong one or they sent the wrong one or it was just the closest one, but they sent a whole large van for my Uber ride to the airport, for just me. It was a little crazy. But it took me where I needed to go and dropped me off at the airport that was quickly becoming as familiar as BWI to me.
I didn't bring my headphones because it's an international flight and I figured they would provide them along with the television screens that Air New Zealand even has for domestic flights. But I wasn't on Air New Zealand, I was on Virgin Australia. Not only did they not have any television sets or headphones, they didn't have any snacks, food, blankets, or pillows either.
Luckily there was a little girl next to me that thought it was totally awesome that I was an American so she talked to me for a little bit. I also tried to pass the time by playing games on my phone, but it almost overheated my phone and it killed my battery in like a half hour, which was not good because I still had Brisbane and another flight til Bali. So then I attempted to read the magazine in the seat pocket in front of me, and that helped a little as well. Somehow, I made it to Brisbane.
After my night on the town, I made it back to a completely empty airport. I was really hoping that this meant the flight would also be empty and I could possibly spread out and get some sleep.
No such luck.
Once we started boarding, the gate/plane/airport suddenly filled up and the flight was practically full. It was too full for me to even get 1 empty seat between me and a stranger, let alone have a row to myself. Times like these I really miss my dear Southwest.
Again, there was no television, no blankets or pillows, no headphones. We did however get a breakfast meal, but I wasn't feeling very well so I didn't take it. I don't know what it is about planes these days but I can't seem to be on one without getting sick. It's really not okay.
Because I had been awake for the past 24 hours or longer, I tried to get some sleep, but the most sleep I could muster came in 20 minute intervals. Add that to the plane sickness and it was quite a miserable flight. & there was no little girl next to me to entertain me this time.
Thankfully, we had a tail wind and made it to Bali 30 minutes early (which we then spent being taxied to the gate, but at least we were back on the ground).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Coming back from Bali, there was like a million different securities I had to go through to make it to check in and then again to make it to the gate. It was ridiculous!
Once at check in, the lady stared at my New Zealand Visa for like a solid 15-20 minutes and she kept questioning me about it. Like I don't think she understood English, so I don't understand why she was working for Virgin AUSTRALIA, an English speaking company. Like go to Indonesian Air or something if you don't speak English, but my Visa is good now let me through.
Finally I convinced her that it was fine and she let me go. I wasn't sure if they were going to feed me or not on this flight, and I thought I might sleep on this plane, so I looked for food on my way to the gate. (Plus I still had 70,000 IDR in Cash to spend.) I saw a Hard Rock and just had to stop. We had passed 2 Hard Rocks on the way to the airport and I was thinking about them ever since, so it was like destiny to see one in the airport as well. Hard Rock is my soul restaurant. It's where I go when I'm not feeling well. It's so healing to me. When I'm physically sick (and we're traveling), I always get chocolate milk and a breakfast meal (that I usually only take like 2 bites of because sick) and it always makes me feel better (shout out to my mother for taking me there). Tuns out when you're homesick it has the same healing affect but on your soul. There's just somethin bout rock n roll man. I swear it is magic. Most people don't understand, but for those that do, I appreciate you (shoutout to Ted).
So anyways. I got pulled pork and sweet tea because TEA IS LIFE and I miss sweet tea dearly.
Hard Rock is amazing to me and I thank it for being literally everywhere in the world when I need it most. (I believe that whole sickness chocolate milk thing happened in Denmark or Sweden, as well as Myrtle Beach [good ole USA].) Anyways, I thank God for Hard Rock.
At the gate, there was MORE security to go through. Eventually I made it through and we were shuttled out to the plane via bus because there was no actual gate walkway. So then I boarded my plane, where I was then asked "Did you fall off a motorbike?" as soon as I sat down. No ma'am. I attempted to surf. 'Twas not a good time.
That was as much conversation I had the rest of the way to Auckland.
Thankfully, each flight was significantly shorter on the return. I have no idea why, but going to Bali from Brisbane was 7 hours, while coming back it was only 5. Then, Auckland to Brisbane was 4 hours and coming back it was only 2.5. I was glad for the shortage tho. The sooner I got back the sooner I could go to bed.
I didn't get sick at all on the return flights. I would like to thank the Hard Rock. Maybe things are starting to look up. There still was no television, blankets, pillows, or headphones, but on the Bali to Brisbane we did get a meal, though we did not on Brisbane to Auckland.
I didn't sleep at all, but I did try a little. I mostly just sat there. I wrote some of the earlier Bali blog posts while on the plane, but either I'm a slow writer or I get tired and put it down because I didn't really get very far, I don't think. But because of the flight times, I had 4 hours less time on the return flights than I did on the outgoing flights so it was all good by me, and soon I was back in Auckland.
I took the SkyBus back to Auckland and it was my first successful SkyBus ride! I'm really proud of the SkyBus company and myself for successfully getting me back to my flat incident free so I could type this up for you.
Until next time,
xoxo,
